The Foxtail Fern is a versatile plant featuring soft, needle-like leaves on long-plume-like stems. This bright green plant is perfectly suited for use in a wide range of landscapes! Native to South Africa, this is an ornamental plant, and we love to plant them with palm trees and in perennial beds and borders - their prized foliage brings interest to any type of landscape. They are unique-looking plants, and are sometimes found growing in hanging baskets on front porches, balconies or patios, adding their playful look to any environment! This really is a beautiful plant that grows easily in Southern California - looks amazing mass planted or as an accent!
Don’t be fooled by its soft and delicate appearance because Foxtail Ferns are actually quite tough and hardy. They like to grow with partial shade to partial sun exposure and are an excellent choice for the coastal area. It’s also a great choice for adding some much needed greenery to any urban garden or rock garden. This low maintenance plant will have low to moderate watering needs and is drought tolerant once established. The Foxtail Fern is also a good choice for a waterwise landscape, as it adds a wonderful bright green contrast. To keep this plant looking fresh, we recommend frequent applications of our Moon Dust fertilizer.
