Yaupon Holly Stokes (Ilex vomitoria 'Stokes')
Yaupon Holly Stokes
Ilex vomitoria 'Stokes'
Characterized by its neat compact growing habit and dark, olive green foliage color, Yaupon Holly Stokes is among the best of the small evergreen shrubs where it’s especially useful for planting along foundations and fence lines. Native to the southeastern U.S., Ilex vomitoria 'Stokes' features tiny foliage on twiggy branches, so it takes well to shearing into a rectangular hedge or spheres. In the spring, it blooms small, off-white flowers, so it’s a great bird-friendly shrub for any size yard in in Southern California. This is a tough little shrub that makes a good topiary plant or border plant!
Yaupon Holly Stokes loves full sun exposure and once established, is a fairly drought tolerant plant with low to moderate water requirements. It’s a dwarf plant and has a slow growth rate, so we love to plant them as a great low-maintenance shrub along driveway edges or in planters! It can tolerate a wide range of soil conditions, is cold hardy, and in addition to its ability to withstand drought, it can also withstand flooding too. This ‘Stokes Dwarf’ will bring wonderful green color into any landscape! We love to plant them for any homeowner that is looking for an easy to care for shrub with many landscape uses. It blends well with a variety of landscape styles, from tropical, coastal yards and inland to the desert - it’s a great choice for the Southern California region.
